mon june 15th
7.30pm
come and tell us what worked well and what needs more attention
all welcome and we really need your help
thank you and thank you
to say we have been blessed for the previous three years with the weather crackin' the flags is an understatement, we have simply been so lucky
so it was only fair that we were due a wet one - we've had them before and we'll have them again, but I think it is only fair to say that all those involved were incredible
from all the helpers, the stall holders, the performers, the bands, the scouts, the Winkles, the re-enactors, the food vendors, the marshals, the churches, the pubs and clubs, the buses, the museum and of course everyone who came to join in - you were all simply MARVELLOUS and we thank you all
in the run up we were expecting a washout and yet, whilst a wet start to the day we were lucky enough to have enough of a break for the majority of the events to run and for lots of fun to be had - there must be a special mention to the Hathor Belly Dancers who started their performance when the afternoon rain began to set in, they were still prepared to carry on, but then the heavens opened and the water fell and fell - but thankfully there was no falling from the dancers and they stoically continued to complete their five dances in the most testing of weathers - we all thank you so much
but again, thank you to everyone, it was an amazing day and so many great stories to be remembered
a[ologies to those that entered the gifted golcar competition for the lack of information - we have learnt a lot and will make it much smoother next year - but the entrants were wonderful and we have loved seeing the talent that exists within the village
next year will be the twentieth anniversary of Golcar Lily Day - yes - all these times the village has stood up to remind ourselves that the village of Golcar is worth celebrating and that we have so many good things to share with each other - for those that don't realise why Golcar Lily Day started then read here about the history and how the awful murder of an innocent man inspired many to get together and show the true metal of the village
so please not only join us next year, but get involved, come along to a meetings and see the difference you can make, by just doing a little it makes everything easier and helps us put on the best day we possibly can
and fingers crossed, whilst we were unsuccessful in securing a flyover this year (and let's face it we wouldn't have seen it though all those clouds!) we are applying for a flyover of the RED ARROWS next year - we can only hope eh!

and local sponsors mean a lot to us, we can't survive wothout the support of local businesses and organisations so please take a moment to read what it means to them;
at ryder and dutton we’re proud to be part of the local communities we operate in, and after years of helping people move, we’re forging lasting relationships with members of the communities we serve, this includes supporting local causes such as golcar lily day's fundraising for their festive afternoon tea
our work acts as a constant reminder of how much the local area means to the people that we help and in turn, our teams

come celebrate a lost golcar lily
|
in 2024 Golcar sadly lost a true Golcar Lily - Sophie was born at home on Bobbin Close just behind Town End but sadly after a long battle with her mental health she took her own life
a dedicated HTAFC fan and had been a keen member of golcar scouts - she always looked forward to golcar lily day for all the activities especially the bottle tombola 😁 - plus a big fan of Golcar Winkle Club's bar they run on Golcar Lily Day to raise funds supporting projects for Golcar - so we were delighted to learn - the legends that they are - have renamed it for the day "Sophie's Bar" so please come and buy a drink - say "cheers" to Sophie, she'd have loved that and at the same time it will help raise funds for the village Sophie particularly struggled after the passing of her cat Bear who she was so close with, her type of autism didn't allow her to cope with grief very well we are sharing this with you all so that if you feel low or lost then please know there are plenty of people who would like to help you thank you to her amazing friend Callum for the words he came up with for her celebration event last year |
