Golcar Lily Day
is all about you

and despite its name, it's more than just a day

it is a whole year of exciting fundraising events followed by a weekend of fun and activities for all ages

a chance for the community to get together and share all that is great in Golcar

please come and join in
next meeting
Monday 22nd September

all welcome and we really need your help

The Commercial, Golcar
7.30 pm

thank you to everyone;
all that came
the volunteers
performers
and stall holders

this years theme was "golcar – this is our story" and you can read some of the amazing stories here
click here to enjoy the first on our series of stories from golcar
but what ana amazing day - we were lucky enough to be blessed with good weather - it makes all the difference - but I think you will agree everyone put on one 'eck of a day

first off a big virtual hug to Sue Starr and much love in your recovery - without you this day would never happened - Sue was one of the founding organisers and drivers behind Golcar Lily Day over the years but Sue was quite ill this year and has been recovering strongly but this prevented her being as involved this year - get back to full strength soon Sue ❤️

but a massive thank you to Soo Ellis who found time (we don't know how) in between all her volunteering for Scouts to step up to the mark and be the lead organiser for Golcar Lily Day - had she not, it may not have gone ahead, so thank you Soo 😍

and well done and thank you to everyone who volunteered, performed, manned stalls and events, organisers, marshals, litter pickers - the list is huge - so a please bear them a thought and also please consider joining us as we a desperately in need of more help - many hands make light work as they say

hopefully we will be able to do this all again next year - but we do need funds and helpers 😉

lovely write up on the flypast

thank you to the amazing Huddersfield Hub for their lovely story about Golcar Lily Day and the flypast

thank you also to them for allowing us to share the story with you and for the brilliant photos from Huddersfield Hub photographer SEAN DOYLE - if you don't know who Huddersfield Hub are then check them out - they are a wonderful asset to the region with an aim of reporting worthwhile and upbeat stories about our communities

thank you again to the amazing Golcar Winkle Club for running the bar - especially in remembrance of Sophie
and thank you to all of you who came and bought drinks from them - you successfully ran the beer dry!

come celebrate a lost golcar lily

Picture
last year Golcar lost a true Golcar Lily - Sophie was born at home on Bobbin Close just behind Town End but sadly after a long battle with her mental health she took her own life

a dedicated HTAFC fan and had been a keen member of golcar scouts - she always looked forward to golcar lily day for all the activities especially the bottle tombola 😁 - plus a big fan of Golcar Winkle Club's bar they run on Golcar Lily Day to raise funds supporting projects for Golcar - so we were delighted to learn - the legends that they are - have renamed it for the day "Sophie's Bar" so please come and buy a drink - say "cheers" to Sophie, she'd have loved that and at the same time it will help raise funds for the village

Sophie particularly struggled after the passing of her cat Bear who she was so close with, her type of autism didn't allow her to cope with grief very well

we are sharing this with you all so that if you feel low or lost then please know there are plenty of people who would like to help you

thank you to her amazing friend Callum for the words he came up with for her celebration event last year
